GAME CONCEPTS

About
Concepts are where my design journey usually start. They are short documents where to describe a vision - more to inspire than to explain, they illustrate the core idea for a game.
I usually follow a quite traditional outline to describe content: an introduction (which usually starts with a logline and possibly includes the goal), a description (where the game concept is expanded), a list of key features, and finally a suggestion over the ideal platform.
I always try to fit the whole idea into a single page, and focus on what makes it compelling from a game design point of view (unless there is a brief to follow; in that case, I might favor the business model or any other information that might be relevant).

Pitching
I had the chance to pitch some game concepts to publishers for potential collaborations. To make the document more pleasant to the eye, the team decided to prepare a single slide with some graphical content.
Getting inspiration
I usually like to use (and collect) inspirational tools that goes beyond the traditional means (e.g. mind maps or card sorting). My favorite are Rory's Story Cubes, but there's plenty more out there that usually focus on a specific aspect or approach to game design.
